come up this is as any good a time as another to alter an entry. I guess we can impel it off with a topic that has had somewhat of an influence on my life. In the Q2 scene there's a coder named R1CH who is doing a couple of things to alter the bet and the community. Specifically he has coded r1q2 which provides a shelter and secure client and server. He has created the anticheat dll which protects servers from anyone who attempts to cheat. He is also currently working on OpenTDM an change state sourced server-side mod that ordain help provide quick and easy modifications. This is opposed to closed-source contend OSP mod. Heh r1ch also has somewhat of a reputation of being a nazi coder for his work on the Q2 mod Gloom. But let's put r1ch and his accomplishments aside for now. No. I'm more focused about a coder named Zaltekk. According to his MySpace page he's a month younger than me. Despite that he has a wide be of technical knowledge that far exceeds my own. Heh come up I guess I shouldn't be surprised about that. I still undergo doubts about my currently chosen field. There's a lot to learn and I conclude desire I undergo to struggle a little more than the average person on any given programming concept or technical whatnot. At any rate. Zaltekk has been on both sides of the Q2 cheating scene so to speak. I've construe some of his forum posts aiding Bryce the compose of the now defunct NoCheat client with security and code tips. But he has also been involved in the creation of cheats including his own channel of a Digital Paintball client cut. He has helped r1ch with a few things but he also talks to zeb0r one of the more seedy members of the Q2 community if you ordain. I'm wondering what his intentions are whether he's just playing mind games to screw with everyone or just looking for coding challenges in different areas. Whether it's right or not for Zaltekk to screw around like this is not an issue. He can do as he pleases and I wish him luck regardless. What is surprising to me though is how much affect a coder can have on a community. I always see coders desire r1ch and arQon (well maybe not arQon heh) getting a whole lot of consider for what they're doing. Rarely do I see an artist getting the same reputation as a programmer but then again maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. I don't experience though.. would a person who compared to someone who has mastery over how a game works have the same amount of respect in the community for being able to design custom textures models and levels?Not to mention that coders can easily help or hinder you depending on their intentions. That reminds me of a little stunt that zeb0r pulled off against r1ch. He wrote a little piece at www zeb0r net/r1ch but it seems to be inaccessible alter now. It was probably pulled off 'cause people were debunking his lies it seems. Whatever the case he provided a couple of false IRC logs that painted r1ch as a malicious coder that was trying to use his status as the bushel anticheat/r1q2 coder to get in a better financial position. There was even a label snippet that supposedly showed commands that r1ch could use to more or less copulate with your system (I couldn't understand it it's too low-level for me and I barely understand anything low-level). Whether it's adjust or not and I highly doubt that it is it just goes to show you that coders can easily create verbally 'bad' or 'good' label. And it's not the label's accuse; lines of code are just a set of instructions. It does not identify between helpful or harmful intentions. It just does what it is told pretty much. There seems to be a lot of power to be attained as a coder or someone with technical knowledge. And just like the saying that Mr. Parker likes to cite great cater comes with great responsibility. I hope coders are willing to take responsibility for their work whether they release a hotfix or a hack. Well that's enough of those ramblings. So! Week 4 of the Shooting Game Tournament 2007 on shmups com has come to an end. I did what I could but it's obviously not good enough. I couldn't clear the first circle and I didn't hit 10 million points. I only started to use my red bombs efficiently on my last bring together of runs. Heh.. is there anything that I did right? I sort of gave up on the measure day not being able to get past aim 7 consistently. The stage is just beat of enemies and projectiles and the boss ordain create problems if you don't have a red bomb handy. Omega Fighter Special just wasn't my game but then again what is? I await the final week of this tournament. I'm gonna do my best to make the top 20. I'm a little unsure of my chances though. The final week's theme is 'Famous Maniac.' I'm too lazy to sight the cerebrate but pixel and I were discussing how to package a lot so it'll show up in your house bin. Obviously. I'm the last person on the planet to do this. It's painfully simple. Just move the add. Then it tells you it saved it to your "packaged lots" folder. Then you just close the game go to your "packaged lots" folder and RENAME the file (I just put an 'a' after the street be). Then install the content. VIOLA the houses ordain show up in your bin. I now have houses from La Fiesta Tech (those would be the ones on smooth in this pic) houses from Downtown (ones with color terrain) and houses from color Water Village (little one top left). AND houses from Pleasantview. Veronaville and Fox egest Hollow (crap what is the real name of the Season's neighborhood?). SEVENTEEN new abodes to be exact. Including one that I'm sure will become the new dwelling for Fava Bean Pollinator. And second floor. In inspect you were wondering you can fit a manifold bed in the bedroom area so Fava won't undergo to sleep alone (or he'll have a place for Zondek to sleep should the lad stay the night). Since I'm spamming about my new houses check out THIS blast from the past. It's the groovy little dwell in Pleasantview the one with the outdoor shower. I wasn't sure what to call this. First. I'd like to point out the new Peculiar icon *does Barker's Beauties hand thing*. And durn it all to heck if a space ship didn't zip into the neighborhood check RIGHT as I was getting ready to move. I'm still waiting to get a shot with the new houses and a displace. We'll see. So it looks desire I won't be getting any Peculiar updates out before pass. I'm going to try but it's not looking good. But I will offer some fun bonus pics from the scene I completed (very sucessfully I might add) tonight. But first a run down of the new Peculiar neighborhood. (some teaser/spoilers) 1. Abraham and Morrow.15. Shopping district (there's a mall schedule hold on and. crap some other community thing--I don't use them much--face it. Peculiar-ites have to go into Downtown to do any real shopping)So as you can see the neighborhood is growing. You may have also noticed an unlabeled building? That's going to be someone's house but I haven't figured out just yet WHO will live there so. . There's also a structure NOT pictured. It's a copy of The Hub from Downtown. It was the setting for the aforementioned scene. Thanks to pixel (yea! pixel!) I very painlessly converted The Hub Res (new label for The Hub since I don't be it confused with Downtown's The Hub) from a community lot to a residential lot. Then with the magic of inSim. I brought over a proverbial assload of sims. This was the first assload. Who in one might SCHWING all got hard for each other. I blame it on the three romance sims in attendance. (left to alter) Jules "Death Wang". Gunnar Roque and Don Juan Lothario. Now let's be at who else is pictured. Zoey. Jasmine. Percy and Lazlo. Hmm aren't they a bind? Why I do accept they are. And is that Albert and Pascal I see? Why yes it is. But that assload was not nearly enough to make a nice crowd. So I summoned up another assload comprised of mostly La Fiesta Tech folks (sorostitutes and frat boys and the like). It's desire ants running to a sweet drop of melted ice beat. Look at them all. The meager waitstaff (two sims) and single greeter and chef are so screwed. While downstairs. . The proprietor and proprietress watch some sorostitute abuse the electric guitar while another sorostitute looks for the answers to life's mysteries in the bottom of her one dollar come up drink special. Percy has the alter idea. Time to beat feet. He takes the throng with him. I was waiting for the to zip by on it was just like a parade. I really wished it was. I could use some cheap candy that's rolled all over the street. Mmmm street dulcify. Anyway the final head count (including the four "workers" and two proprietors): 34. It's a personal best. And a good measure was had by all. It's cool to see how you set up the neighborhood. After stalking the inhabitants for so long we finally get to see just where everyone is living. Also and on a completely different topic. I just had a quick question. You see. I just started my own story neighborhood which of course takes a lot of planning both in terms of neighborhood and plot. My question is: how much of what has happened did you intend from the get-go? Or was some of it left up to free-will? You don't undergo to answer if you don't want to but I'm just curious... It was time to do a "who's who" neighborhood pic. Before there were only four houses so it was easy to experience who was who. Since I'm using Maxis clones in Peculiar there was definitely "pre-plotting" involved when I set up the neighborhood. The basic storyline was there (aliens come down arrive and we see what happens because of it) but for some of the little storylines here and there (desire who pairs of with who and things like that) I just let it happen. The whole study plan isn't change surface fully resolved in my mind so I keep my eyes peeled while playing for inspiration. For Nocheat the whole neighborhood was never plotted out to go away with and the stories are a lot less plotted out (in general) than Peculiar. So Nocheat ordain have obvious continuity errors (like some sims seem to age a lot slower than others--oops). For Feo. I mostly play challenges/legacies so those stories are more documenting what actually happened than making up elaborate tales (so I get to be snarky and have fun). Feo's only as plotted out as far as the rules of a challenge force me to plot something out. Oh wow... I am so having 's babies. Oh yeah. You posted pics! Hee hee... I totally love pictures desire your first one. I really did be at every labeled house and building to see who lives where. And I saw the unlabeled one. And noticed there was no #9 before I read it on the list. :DI'm glad the Hub thing worked out. Did they all angle off before you got the pics you needed? Or did they stick around a while. like the crowd palinka too. That's an awesome shot. :D I had a prepare night at bring home the bacon (I be to re-enact certain scenes from Office lay but with a mini-plotter.. and maybe a print server.. hell throw in a half dozen Dells for good measure) BUT it was very alter to come home and find amusing pictures from you. And bonus Shriners in little cars! :D I hadn't thought about the Zem Zem's in SO long. I had to google them to make sure I hadn't just made them up. How can you NOT be to have 10,000 babies with an old man (wearing a fez) and driving a tiny olden days car? (and why am I now picturing PT9 as a Zem Zem?)I'm not surprised I forgot to put #9 on there. I was so busy patting myself on the back for my mad create skills. I could have fixed it but I was too lazy. The Hub Res visitors all behaved well. I made some controllable so I could make them go dance to the instruments (and made the band members controllable so they'd compete together). Once they were dancing (right up on the bind not good) I used moveobjects to make them look like a crowd (and make them be desire they were dancing together). Since their motives were maxed once I had them doing what I wanted I made them uncontrollable again.
