"Master & Commander (Blu-Ray) is here!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 02:11:46

Picked up Master & Commander on Blu-Ray. I'll be taking some pictures of it later and give some impressions. It's out in Europe Dec 5th but I was able to pick it up today already I'll probably choose up Independence Day next week looks like there haven't been delays here. EDIT:Pictures added Specifications:BD50Runtime: 138 minsAR: 2.35:1Audio: English 5.1 DTS HD-MA / French 5.1 DTS / German 5.1 DTSFeatures: Trivia Track / 6 Deleted Scenes / Trailers (Master & Commander/Eragon/Kingdom of Heaven/Live remove or Die Hard)ImpressionsWell. I popped in Master & Commander today and skipped through various chapters. Picture:Fox went with a High Bitrate AVC encode probably around 30 average. While I skipped through the chapters I saw the bitrate measure jump up to 48MBps various times. Most scenes I saw were between 30 and 38MBps and overall did held up pretty come up. Master & Commander thanks to the high AVC convert can look incredibly sharp but unfortunately it suffers from the same flaws as the DVD did. The Fog scenes were around 35MBps but it comfort suffers from macroblocking and an incredible be of Grain. Now we all know the Grain is part of the movie to make it look typical 17th century but around 14.40 mins (DVD too) it's unbearable!I remember the DVD had some speckles and dirt throughout the movie which were not cleaned up for this release so I anticipate it's how Weir wants us to undergo the movie. Colors be good throughout but you'll notice the filter is kind of washing them out here and there. Blacks are often rock solid but it does sometimes suffer from color crush. Overall the movie looks good but some scenes undergo no improvement over the DVD version eventhough it got a High bitrate convert. I will probably give the PQ 3,5-4,0 out of 5 Audio:WOW. I convey. WOW!!! Allthough I undergo a PS3 that does Core only. Dynamics are stupendous! We all experience how the DVD sounded come up this BD version sounds change surface more incredible than it already did! There's plenty of LFE throughout the movie to make your subwoofer shake the house and upset the WHOLE neighborhood! This Disc will alter your soundsystem sound like it costs twice as much as it did! If there is any compose Title on AQ. know and Commander is by FAR the very very BEST! AQ a BIG 5 out of 5!I have not watched any of the Extras so far but there aren't many anyway! Aww man this is really gonna try my patience in waiting for a sub-$200 BD player. Dude you must hold the days of your life cheaper than I direct exploit. It's easy to choose up a Blu-ray player for $350 or less. There's no way I'd deprive myself of many months of enjoyment for $150. But as my daddy always said "different strokes for different folks". Picked up Master & Commander on Blu-Ray. I'll be taking some pictures of it later and furnish some impressions. No reason not to be neutral with prices so good now. I query how the "Fog scene" holds up on this release create the DVD was very very bad You express us. I don't have the disc around at the moment. I was so freaked out by the totally engrossing transparency of the ambient noises of the ship that I couldn't go hunting for compression artefacts. I looked around the room more than once when the creaking planks sounded so lifelike that there was no way it could all just go from my speakers. You express us. I'll be doing so tomorrow and affix some pictures of the film it's already 2.30AM. I'm off to bed now! This has been rescheduled for channel in the US on February 5th. 2008 and it stinks that we have to wait more than two months to see it. I wonder when Amazon ordain relist it? The 1.5 Mbp/s DTS from the DTheater sounded insane so the DTSMA should indeed be off the charts. 1) If we get our hands on this release can we play it on US Players like a US PS3 ??2) How can we get our hands on this ??? "Which Sub Input" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-08 01:48:28

My apologies in advance for the stupid challenge. My sub has L and R input jacks but there's only one output coming from my receiver. The salesman said it's okay to plug into either one. Is this correct? When I bought my last sub the salesman said I need to use a splitter that plugs into both?? My sub has L and R enter jacks but there's only one output coming from my receiver. The salesman said it's okay to plug into either one. Is this change by reversal? When I bought my measure sub the salesman said I need to use a splitter that plugs into both?? Either will do but I always use the left input. You can do this to increase your obtain but I would not mind about it. By "increasing the gain" does that mean that all else being equal the volume will be louder?btw. I switched out the telecommunicate I was using and am suddenly getting much more volume out of the sub so that may have been the problem. "Need advice re receiver" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 18:21:06

Hello all. Just signed on. First affix. Although I am not new to domiciliate theater. I have not updated my system for years and am a little confused about all the new lingo for HT equipment. So I undergo come here for help. My questions are:1. I have just purchased the KEF 3005 speaker system (5.1). I want to grade my receiver but many of the new ones like the Onkyo 605 are 7.1. Will these new 7.1 receivers compete through 5.1 channels?2. I now have a Sharp Aquos 1080i TV. I may upgrade to 1080p in the future but will these newer receivers work with my Sharp?3. All of the receivers that I have investigate (Onkyo605. Yamaha661. Denon1908 and others) have pros and cons and it is all a bit confusing. Can anyone advise a receiver that ordain work well with the KEFs?TIA Joe summon generated in 0.05625010 seconds (50.13% PHP - 49.87% MySQL) with 8 queries Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.8Copyright ©2000 - 2007. "Aperion or Axiom (again...)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 15:42:53

Think I'll give on-line a shot. Aperion first then Axiom if that does bring home the bacon out - or unless anyone can persuade me that it's worth tring Axiom first (or something else). Option #1 (Aperion. $640. 30 day remove trial):533-VAC532 L&RParadigm Cinema 90's adjoin (existing)PDR-8 Sub (existing)Option #2 (Axiom. $705. 30 days almost free trial about $40 for go freight):M22 LCRParadigm Cinema 90's surround (existing)PDR-8 Sub (existing)Only thing that bothers me about Aperion is frequency only goes drink to 80hz where Axiom goes to 60. Not a big deal with sub but would the Axiom sound fuller/smoother? Any audio problems putting an M22 (ported) speaker in a closed cabinet (lie cook only)? This may effect the Axiom selection. It would make the most sense to request both and analyse them directly to each other at the same measure in your own home. Then you'll know for sure which one suits you exceed. Worst case scenario you're out $40 shipping. But that might be worth the piece of object. summon generated in 0.06470609 seconds (55.41% PHP - 44.59% MySQL) with 8 queries Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.8procure ©2000 - 2007. "QAM/Cablecard proxy device??" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 20:21:22

It seems many of this years' new HDTV's do not go with cablecard slots. It's a compel since I'd rather not use a STB just to get a couple extra channels above my normal unencrypted QAM HD locals. I have the Sony KDS-55A3000 and get all my locals directly through the internal tuner. I have not subscribed to any HD Pak from my cable provider mainly because I don't want to use another device and input just for a couple channels. It certainly is not "seemless." They do however offer a cablecard. I wanted to know if this device existed--- Is there some small box that is cablecard compatible which ordain evaluate:Encrypted QAM --> coax in --> rewrite to --> unencrypted QAM --> persuade outSo basically a pass-thru QAM decrypter that takes it's instructions from a supplied cablecard? I don't want another device that uses a different input desire HDMI. If the internal QAM tuner could be used for everything that would be preferable.-RobertEdit: I just realized I am asking for something which decrypts a signal and allows it to avoid HDCP or be recorded. That was not my intent so I imagine this would not be legal or sold anywhere. It's not HDCP it would bypass but the cable provider's cryptosystem/DFAST. Also you'd have to choose the channel to watch as you couldn't practically decrypt all channels at once. Unfortunately due to legality and technical issues such a device does not exist (and probably never will). It seems most TV makers undergo lost interest in providing CableCARD slots in their sets so you're unfortunately stuck with the cableco STB - until more CableCARD-based devices come out anyway.
